When I was young, my grandmother would receive all these different candies as gifts. We’d look them over together and share them. And sometimes we’d share a “special treat” as well. It’s a treasured memory and thinking about it still brings a smile to my face. I later learned that my grandmother was a diabetic. The candies I thought were so delicious were actually sugar free. And that special treat? Well, that was air-popped popcorn with no salt or butter!
That was the first time I really became aware that everything can be accessible for anybody… if you just make the right modifications. And that those modifications can be just as tasty as the more typical version. My passion to develop and teach yoga classes for everyone of all abilities, shapes and sizes has grown out of this awareness.
But it is more than wanting to offer accessibility to every body, mind and spirit that fuels my practice. I believe that movement and connection with our own body is necessary to help us continue to create strong mental and emotional connections in life. My grandmother is gone now, but love for my family continues to a driving force.
My husband and I have 2 beautiful (of course!) children. Yoga has become a way to help my son and daughter move and connect with their bodies and emotions. I find that it helps our family function better as individuals and as a unit. Our son has several diagnosis, including Autism, ADHD, and Sensory Integration. Trying to help him, and us, navigate these diagnosis led me to create a program called Together in Motion. The Together in Motion protocol supports those with cognitive disorders, developmental delays and physical limitations. It is truly an honor to facilitate and I love it.
I love to find creative ways to connect on and off the mat with all my students. Life is full of daily challenge and I work to help my students find peace and balance on the mat, hoping that these tools will then enter their world beyond the studio.
Yoga connects us with our body, our breath (oh, the breath, there is so much to say about the breath) and the world around us. Come join me for yoga that is accessible to everyone and every BODY! Discover your strengths and unearth your challenges. My classes emphasize a Hatha and alignment-base practice with a focus on the therapeutic benefits of the yoga practice. My approach is playful, down-to-earth, thoughtful and compassionate. I can’t wait to meet you!
